One employee at the facility was treated at the scene for injuries, but refused to go to the hospital, fire officials said.

Lights Out: Patriots Stomp Chargers

$

This was supposed to be the year the Patriots didn't land on Free Parking in the game of Monopoly that is the AFC Divisional Playoffs.

About that.

Phil Rivers and the Los Angeles Chargers wanted absolutely no part of the sub-freezing temperatures at Gillette Stadium, where the Patriots rolled the Chargers, 41-28, to advance to the AFC Championship Game for the eighth consecutive season. They’ll be facing the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium at 6:40 p.m. next Sunday.

New England scored on each of its first four possessions, giving Ryan Allen a well-deserved breather to begin the game. And even when the artists formerly known as the San Diego Chargers finally forced the Patriots to punt, Desmond King muffed the return. After initially being ruled out of bounds upon recovery, replay confirmed that Albert McClellan fell on the ball in bounds, giving New England the ball right back.

Four plays later, rookie Sony Michel completed his hat trick of first half rushing touchdowns to stretch the Patriot lead to 35-7 prior to the break, giving New England the most points it had scored in the first half all season long.

Michel broke open the scoring for the Patriots as well, capping off a 14-play, 83-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run.

Looking back, it’s easy to forget that the Chargers responded with a touchdown of their own after Stephon Gilmore bit on a fake by Keenan Allen for a 43-yard score to help tie the game at 7-all.

That felt like so long ago, the Chargers might as well have still been playing at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. This was an evisceration, far and away the best New England has looked in basically every aspect of the game this season.

Michel scored again to give the Patriots the lead for good on a 14-yard run, followed by the first postseason touchdown of Phillip Dorsett’s career.

Dorsett became the 28th player to catch a touchdown pass from Brady, who threw for 343 yards on the game. Out of 38 career postseason games, the figure is the eighth-most of Brady's career.

Rex Burkhead got in the act with a 6-yard touchdown run to increase New England’s lead to 28-7 prior to Michel’s final score, which came just after he surpassed 100 yards on the ground for the game.

Michel, in his postseason debut, racked up 129 yards on the ground.

That vaunted Chargers pass rush of Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa? Zero sacks.

"Credit to the coaches and credit to us for attention to detail this week," left tackle Trent Brown said. "[We] played with technique for 60 minutes."

"Those two guys are great rushers, it was fun chasing them up and down the field the whole game," right tackle Marcus Cannon said. "Hats off to them, they brought it and it wasn't easy."

What was the biggest message from legendary offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia during the week leading up to the game?

"You'll have to ask him," Cannon said.

MILESTONES

James White established a new career high -- regular or postseason -- with 15 catches, one more than he hauled in vs. the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI. Julian Edelman also matched a career best with 151 yards receiving on nine catches -- again, between the regular or postseason.

Edelman climbed to seventh on the career postseason receiving yards list during the game (1,175) and is now second all-time in postseason receptions, with 98. Only Jerry Rice (151) remains ahead of him in that category.

State police say an elderly Uncasville couple was killed in a crash that closed I-395 in Norwich on Saturday night.

Their car hit another car and rolled onto its side before being struck by a minivan, police said.

The crash happened just after 6:30 p.m. and closed the highway for hours.

The driver of the car that was hit head-on, 23-year-old Amber Nicole Castle, of Norwich, was critically injured in the crash. The passengers in the third car involved were not injured, police said.

State police are asking anyone who witnessed the accident to call Trooper First Class Piper at Troop E in Montville at (860) 848-6500.

Terminal at MIA to Resume Normal Operations on Monday

Miami International Airport's Concourse G will return to normal operations Monday morning.

The airport said that the decision to shut down the terminal was a "precautionary measure due to uncertainties created by the lapse in federal government funding."

Concourse G will close at 1 .pm on Sunday. However, the closure at the terminal will end sooner than expected.

"MIA’s Concourse G will return to normal operations on Monday morning, with the TSA fully staffing the Concourse G checkpoint. MIA and TSA will continue to monitor checkpoint staffing levels and make adjustments as necessary," the airport said in a statement.

MIA said it did not anticipate a significant impact to flight schedules or the overall passenger experience.

The Transportation Security Administration – tasked with guaranteeing U.S. airport security – last week acknowledged an increase in the number of its employees calling off work during the partial government shutdown.

MIA urges travelers to arrive at least two hours ahead of a domestic flight and three hours for an international flight.

TSA employees are expected to work without pay during the shutdown because their jobs are considered essential.

Friday marked the first missed paycheck for about 800,000 federal employees furloughed or working without pay – causing anxiety and frustration for many.

The union representing the United States’ air traffic controllers is suing the Trump administration over pay that has been frozen as part of the partial government shutdown.

PG&E CEO Quits After Backlash From Deadly Wildfires

The chief executive for PG&E has stepped down, and the utility said its board of directors is searching for a new CEO, according to a company announcement Sunday.

Geisha Williams resigned from her position as CEO and was replaced on an interim basis by Executive Vice President and General Counsel John Simon, PG&E said.

"On behalf of the Board, I want to thank Geisha for her service and her tireless commitment to our employees and the 16 million Californians we serve," Richard C. Kelly, chair of the Board of PG&E Corp., said in a statement. "While we are making progress as a company in safety and other areas, the Board recognizes the tremendous challenges PG&E continues to face. We believe John is the right interim leader for the company while we work to identify a new CEO. Our search is focused on extensive operational and safety expertise, and the Board is committed to further change at PG&E."

PG&E is being investigated for its role in multiple deadly wildfires across California. The company's stock has plummeted in recent months, and there have been reports it is on the verge of bankruptcy.

Cal Fire inspectors blamed PG&E equipment for sparking a dozen fires across Northern California in 2017. Investigators are now looking into whether the utility's equipment may have sparked the Camp Fire in Butte County, which killed at least 88 people.

The state attorney general recently concluded that PG&E could be held liable for damages and criminal charges if faulty equipment is found to have started the deadliest fire in California history.

Also on Sunday night, CNBC reported that Pacific Gas and Electric Co. may be preparing to declare bankruptcy and could tell employees as soon as Monday.

Simon, who has been with PG&E since 2007, having held several senior positions, will act as CEO until the company finds a permanent replacement for Williams.

"While the Board conducts its CEO search, our priority will be keeping the company focused on further improving safety while continuing to provide reliable service to our customers," Simon said in a statement.

Williams resigned from the boards of both the holding company and the utility, PG&E said.

A Hartford man is accused of robbing a pizza delivery driver at knifepoint in Southington on Friday night and has been arrested.

Police responded to the Motel 6 on Queen Street at 7:14 p.m. Friday after an armed robbery was reported and learned that a delivery driver for Vivaldi’s Pizza had been robbed.

Police said the driver brought an order to a room at the motel and no one answered the door, so he called the phone number associated with the order and arranged to meet the customer in the parking lot.

The customer had a knife, held up the driver and stole $273 in cash and a small amount of Rupees, then ran, according to police.

Police were able to obtain subscriber information for the cell phone that the food order came from, identified the suspect as 19-year-old Patrick Brown, of Hartford, learned the phone was still near Motel 6 and Brown had a room there, police said.

Officers found Brown in a room and the driver identified him as the person who robbed him, according to police.

Officers recovered a knife, cash and Indian currency in the room and said they also found Brown with crack cocaine.

He was arrested and charged with robbery in the first degree, larceny in the sixth degree and possession of crack cocaine.

Quinnipiac University to Close WQUN-AM Radio Station

Quinnipiac University is planning on closing AM-1220 WQUN, the school's Greater New Haven community radio station, later this year.

In an email to staff on Friday, the Vice President for Public Affairs Lynn Bushnell said the decision was made after careful consideration of the needs of their students.

When the station first went on the air in 1997, Bushnell said WQUN was used as a training ground where students could learn broadcasting skills before graduating and ultimately securing a job in the radio industry.

She added that the entire radio industry, and AM radio in particular, has seen tectonic changes.

"The number of students who even consider a career in radio, or who want to intern at WQUN-AM has declined sharply, prompting the university to re-examine the prudence of continuing to operate a community radio station," she said in the email.

The radio station will cease operations on June 30, 2019. The building and property on Whitney Avenue is expected to be retained and re-purposed, according to school officials.

Buzz Around a Weekend Snowstorm

$

Just as one major winter storm crippled parts of the mid-west and mid-Atlantic, rumors are buzzing about another storm for this upcoming weekend.

Still six days out, what we know now is that there will be an impactful storm likely moving into Connecticut late Saturday and lasting through much of Sunday.

The biggest question now is what type of storm will it be? That all depends on the track it takes. A track farther north would result in a messy mix with ice and rain.

[[504325461,C]]

A track to the south could bring us a significant snowstorm.

[[504325431,C]]

Either way, the NBC Connecticut meteorologists will be keeping a close eye on the forecast and bring you the latest information as we get it.

Wharton Brook State Park in Wallingford has reopened to the public and Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden is expected to open in the spring. Both had been closed since May when storms caused extensive damage.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said hundreds of trees were damaged at Wharton Brook State Park and they conducted extensive tree clean-up, stump removal and re-grading throughout the park.

Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden remains closed and DEEP is working with the Sleeping Giant Park Association to reopen the park, which is expected to happen sometime this spring.

"Wharton Brook and Sleeping Giant are among Connecticut's most popular state parks and we know that people have been anxious for them to re-open. Our first priority is to ensure the safety of all visitors to our state parks, and I want to thank everyone for their patience during these ongoing efforts and for heeding the closure warnings. We're excited that Wharton Brook has re-opened and are hopeful that we'll get Sleeping Giant back open in time as the warmer weather approaches. I want to especially thank all of the state's partners who have assisted in the clean-up efforts – their teamwork with the state is part of what makes Connecticut's natural resources so great," Gov. Ned Lamont said in a statement,

DEEP Commissioner-designate Katie Dykes said in a statement that, “thanks to help from the Sleeping Giant Park Association” they have made progress clearing the damage along several miles of trails but much of the park remains unsafe.

The park will reopen once the work of clearing and repairing the trails is substantially complete, she said.

New Britain police have arrested a man after investigating a suspected case of child abuse and said the 3-year-old victim suffered a skull fracture.

Frank Alezander Santiago, 24, of New Britain, turned himself in to police on Sunday.

Police said they responded to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Thursday after a little girl with a skull fracture had been admitted.

They said the victim’s injuries allegedly happened the day before and the girl’s parent initially sought treatment at the Hospital of Central Connecticut, but the 3-year-old was transferred because of the severity of her injuries.

Police said the mother’s boyfriend was the only caregiver for the girl when she was hurt and investigators later learned that he got upset with her and caused her head to hit the ground.

The victim sustained extensive internal and external injuries from the assault, according to police.

Santiago was charged with assault in the first degree and risk of injury to a minor.

He is being held on a $750,000.00 bond and is due in court today.
