Ladies and gentleman, the 2019 Rockefeller Center Christmas tree has been chosen.

The Norway spruce, which will be the 88th tree to grace the Plaza for the annual weeks-long display, will come from the village of Florida in New York's Orange County, Rockefeller Center announced on Instagram Monday.

Details on the tree's height and owners weren't immediately released. It will be cut down on Thursday, Nov. 7, and arrive at Rockefeller Center on Saturday, Nov. 9. After being adorned with more than 50,000 multi-colored lights and crowned with the iconic Swarovski star, the tree will be illuminated for the first time during a live television broadcast on Wednesday, Dec. 4.

It'll be on display until Friday, Jan. 14, 2020.

Last year's tree was a 72-foot, 12-ton Norway spruce from Shirley Figueroa and Lissette Gutierrez in Wallkill.

The first Rockefeller Center Christmas tree was put up in 1931 by workers building the complex during the Great Depression. The first official tree lighting there was in 1933.

UConn police have arrested two students in connection to an incident involving racial slurs being shouted on campus earlier this month.

A video posted online captured a racial slur repeated several times as three young men walked in a parking lot near the Charter Oak Apartments on the Storrs campus on Friday, October 11.

Police said on Monday that two students were arrested and are facing charges including ridicule on account of creed, religion, color, denomination, nationality or race. Their identities have not been released.

A third person was with them as they walked outside of the apartments, but investigators said they determined he did not participate in the behavior.

In a statement, a school spokesperson previously wrote in part:

“UConn is taking this matter very seriously, and believes strongly that everyone on our campuses deserves to feel safe, valued, and respected at all times.”

UConn said the incident was being reviewed as part of the school’s Bias Incident Protocol, which brings together various departments to address an issue.

A meeting is being held about the incident at the school on Monday night at 8 p.m.

Former President Jimmy Carter is in the hospital again after falling and fracturing his pelvis Monday evening at his home in Plains, Georgia.

Carter Center spokeswoman Deanne Congileo described the fracture as minor. Her statement said the 95-year-old is "in good spirits and looking forward to recovering at home."

This is the third time Carter has fallen in recent months. He first fell in the spring and required hip replacement surgery. Carter fell again this month and despite receiving 14 stitches and a bruised left eye, traveled the next day to Nashville, Tennessee to rally volunteers and help build a Habitat for Humanity home.

Carter is the oldest living former president in U.S. history. He and his wife, 92-year-old Rosalynn, recently became the longest married first couple. They surpassed George and Barbara Bush with more than 73 years of marriage.

Carter previously survived a dire cancer diagnosis in 2015.

Patriots Embarrass Jets, Improve to 7-0

A trap game it wasn’t.

The Patriots picked off Jets quarterback Sam Darnold four times, forcing and recovering a fumble for a fifth turnover and grabbing a muffed punt for a sixth in a systematic dismantling of their AFC East rivals, 33-0, on Monday Night Football at MetLife Stadium to improve to 7-0 on the season.

Devin McCourty had his league-leading fifth pick of 2019, promptly followed by Stephon Gilmore, Duron Harmon and former Jet Terrence Brooks intercepting Darnold over the course of the game. John Simon mixed in a strip sack of Darnold, which was recovered by Kyle Van Noy.

Add it all up, and New England now has as many interceptions through seven games this season (18) as it did all of last regular season. Darnold was a dreadful 11 for 30 passing for 86 yards, amassing a 3.7 passer rating in the process -- the worst ever by a quarterback against a Bill Belichick-coached Patriots team.

It was the second shutout of the season for the Patriots, the first of which also came on the road against a woebegone AFC East foe in Miami. New England added a safety as well, when a snap sailed over the head of Darnold into the end zone in the fourth quarter and the embattled QB was forced to bat the ball out of the end zone to avoid giving up a defensive touchdown.

Meanwhile, on offense, the Patriots welcomed Ben Watson back into the fold in the first half as they continue to adapt on the fly at tight end. Watson, who began his career in New England before leaving as a free agent following the 2009 season, caught three passes from Tom Brady for 18 yards. While the numbers certainly don’t leap off the stat sheet for the 38-year-old tight end, it was telling that Brady looked his way five times -- more targets than either Matt LaCosse or Ryan Izzo received over an entire game at any point this season.

Phillip Dorsett caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Brady, who finished 31 of 45 passing for 249 yards. Sony Michel had the first three-touchdown game of his career, though he did so with just 42 yards rushing on 17 carries (a 2.5 average). Jakobi Meyers, one week after catching a career-high four passes against the Giants, established a new highwater mark with five grabs against the Jets.

Things went so well for the Patriots on Monday that even the kicking game wasn’t an issue, with Mike Nugent connecting on all five of his kicks -- four PATs and a 34-yard field goal.

Just to make matters even better for New England, two of their former receivers had dismal nights for the Jets as well. Demaryius Thomas did have three catches for 42 yards, but also a bad drop on his first target of the game, while Braxton Berrios muffed the punt that was recovered by Matthew Slater which wound up being the sixth and final New York turnover of the game.

New England welcomes the Cleveland Browns to Foxboro on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. to complete the first half of the regular season.

Lawmakers Condemn Online Threats Against State Senator

$

State Democrats and Republicans are coming to the defense of one of their colleagues after an online threat was made on Facebook.

On Tuesday, leaders from both sides of the aisle spent time discussing the comments made online against state Sen. Cathy Osten.

The threats were made online after the Connecticut Republican Party shared a post about another user.

In the post, the user stated that Osten drove through his yard while she was out campaigning on Sunday afternoon.

Under that post was a comment stating, “She does that to the wrong person, she might get shot.”

Another user replied to that comment with the following remark, “I’ll shoot her.”

Osten was in attendance during the new conference to discuss her initial reaction.

“I think I was disappointed that anyone would say this today,” she said. “In today’s world, you cannot take it as just words any longer.”

Osten is running for reelection as first selectman in her hometown of Sprague.

The incident comes just two weeks away from election day.

Osten said she won’t allow threats to stop her campaign, but the comments should be taken seriously.

“If you can’t say it to somebody’s face, you should not be saying it online and act like you are doing something anonymously because those words matter,” she said.

NBC Connecticut reached out to the Republican Town Committee, which issued the following statement:

“The Sprague and Republican Town Committee strongly condemns the careless ridiculous and over the top social media comments directed towards Senator Osten.”

State Republicans told NBC Connecticut that any threatening posts, comments or hate speech is forbidden and will be deleted. The party also said that they will ban anyone who spews hate speech on their page.

Both Gov. Ned Lamont and Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz condemned the social media attacks on female candidates for public office issuing this joint statement:

“The repeated sexist attacks on Mayor Erin Stewart and threats of violence directed at Senator Cathy Osten are vile and reprehensible. While none of this is new unfortunately – especially for women candidates and elected officials – this harassment must end now. At a time when women have made tremendous strides in elected office and made their voices heard, attacks like this only make the challenges they face more difficult. Our democracy works best when we display respect and dignity towards all citizens, including those who are willing to step up and serve, rather than shaming or attacking them.”

Those in the town, like Maureen Trudelle, say the comments went too far.

“I was shocked and I just think that it’s something you don’t do,” said Trudelle. “I just think that the town needs to work together not against each other.”

State and Capitol Police are investigating the online threats.

The school resource officer at Vinal Technical High School in Middletown jumped into action when a teacher suffered what police are calling a “catastrophic” injury Tuesday.

Connecticut State Police said the teacher got his hand stuck in a wood planer at the carpentry shop.  Trooper Alejandro Bugatti used Stop the Bleed techniques, applying a tourniquet to the teacher’s arm, to stop the rapid bleeding.

The teacher, who was not identified, suffered a partial amputation from the planer and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Their condition was not immediately clear.

"This incident not only demonstrates the skills of all parties that aided in this ordeal, but also exemplifies the level of training provided to Troopers at the State Police Academy. Unfortunately, we aren’t always able to prevent catastrophe, but we can prepare and ensure that we are well trained and ready to manage even the worst situations," Connecticut State Police wrote in a media release.

A member of a Connecticut city's education board says he will continue his re-election campaign despite the fact he faces identity theft charges.

Police charged New London Board of Education member Jason Catala with second-degree identity theft and illegal use of a credit card. They say he opened 16 credit cards in his niece's name.

The Day reports that of the $8,000 in debt accumulated: three accounts were closed, three had zero balances and the highest balance was $3,153.

Chairwoman of the Democratic Town Committee Martha Marx says the information in Catala's arrest warrant is "troubling" and asked him to resign and "withdraw his candidacy."

Catala's attorney, Daryl Justin Finizio, says the allegations have nothing to do with his client's service.

His next court date is Nov. 12.

Cause of Fire at Vacant New Haven House Under Investigation

Investigators are trying to determine what sparked a fire at a vacant house in New Haven on Wednesday morning.

Crews were called to the home on Dean Street around 5:15 a.m. after getting a report of a fire.

Firefighters at the scene said a fire in the garage extended to the house and was coming out of a four by four foot hole in the roof. There was also fire reported in the attic of the home.

Fire officials said the home was vacant and it appears people were about to move in because there was luggage inside and a vehicle parked in the driveway.

It took firefighters approximately 45 minutes to bring the fire under control. High winds from the airport hampered firefighters' efforts to control the fire, authorities said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
