More than half the people in the state could have been paying a new tax on home heating oil, but that bill died on Friday, according to Sen. Gary LeBeau, co-chairman of the Commerce Committee.
If the bill had passed, home heating oil customers would have paid 1.5 cents per gallon in the first year, 2.5 cents per gallon in the second and 3.5 cents the third.
Vice President of the Connecticut Energy Management Association, Chris Herb, previously said its an unnecessary tax on a household necessity for more than half the people in the state.
