Southington police have arrested a woman they said was drunk when she went to pick her children up at school on Monday.
When Marita Shurkus , 45, of Southington, arrived at a local school to pick up her children, ages 9 and 11, staff at the after school program believed she was intoxicated, police said.
The staff notified police and would not let her leave with the children.
Police interviewed Shurkus, instructed her to perform field sobriety tests and took her into custody.
Shurkus was charged with criminal attempt of risk of injury to a minor and operating under the influence of alcohol.
She was released on a $1,500 non-surety bond and is due in court on May 20.
