Four Killed in Weekend Crashes

Four people, including two teenagers, were killed in three crashes over the holiday weekend.

State police responded to two fatal crashes over the long weekend.

One person was killed in a crash on Monday evening in North Stonington, according to state police.  The Norwich Bulletin reports that a Rhode Island motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving a truck.

A 20-year-old West Haven man was killed in a crash on Interstate 84 in West Hartford just after 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, when he was hit by a wrong-way driver, according to state police.

Police said Christian Romero, 20, of West Hartford, was driving a Chevy Silverado east on I-84 early Sunday morning when he was struck and killed by a driver traveling west in the eastbound lanes.

State police identified the wrong-way driver as Meny Lam, 46, of Waterbury and said he was driving a Honda Accord west in the eastbound lanes at 1:39 p.m.

Both men were transported to area hospitals, where Romero died from injuries sustained in the crash, police said. Lam suffered life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Two teens were killed in a crash on Abbe Road in South Windsor on Saturday night. The victims have been identified as Brooke Wormstedt, 15 of East Road in East Windsor, and Matthew Masse, 18, of Vernon. 

A 40-year-old  Wethersfield man was pronounced dead at the scene of crash on Plainfield Pike Rt 14A east of Church Street in Sterling at 12:15 a.m. on Saturday, but troopers discovered Marcus Brisbane had suffered chest injury not related to the crash, according to state police.

Police said a verbal dispute led to Brisbane's injury. The medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of Brisbane's death. State police are investigating.

Between Friday morning and Monday, state police investigated 281 motor vehicle crashes, 59 of which caused injuries and charged 57  people with driving while intoxicated.

Troopers issued tickets for 1,941 speeding violations, 718 seat belt violations and 4,294 hazardous moving violations.
