Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has announced $5 million in emergency help to Connecticut farmers for losses due to this year's severe snow and rain storms.

Malloy announced on Sunday that farmers have until July 15 to apply for financial help. The governor said that in the past two years, the state's farms have endured severe weather-related blows that have put them in jeopardy.

Agriculture Commissioner Steven K. Reviczky says the massive snow storm that pounded the Northeast in February and excessive rain in the spring are beyond expectations for farmers.

Assistance may be used to repair damaged property and equipment, replant lost crops, purchase feed and other other work.
