In the days and weeks after the tragic school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, donations by the box load came into Newtown.
People from all over just wanted to do something in attempt to help to ease the pain after 20 first graders and six staff members were killed and the items they sent have been filling an old warehouse in town.
On Feb. 24, the town will hold a “Community Giveaway” to distribute those items to the people of Newtown.
“Our goal is distribute items such as toys, stuffed animals, school supplies, blankets, bikes, etc. to our community as was intended by their donors,” a message on the town of Newtown Web site states.
The community giveaway will be at Reed Intermediate School in the cafetorium.
It will be open to Sandy Hook Elementary School families from noon to 3 p.m. and for the remaining Newtown families from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
