A multibillion-dollar pharmaceutical company has expanded its national recall of a prescription drug used to treat high blood pressure and congestive heart failure for the fourth time since December after trace amount of a possible carcinogen were detected, federal officials announced Thursday.

Torrent Pharmaceuticals, based in India, expanded its U.S. recall to include thousands upon thousands more losartan potassium and losartan potassium/hydrochlorothiazide tablets due to the detection of an "unexpected impurity"  -- N-Methylnitrosobutyric acid (NMBA) -- in an active ingredient.

NMBA, a potential cancer-causing impurity, was found at levels above the acceptable daily intake recommendations of the FDA, Torrent said. No adverse health effects related to the recall have been reported, the company said.

Click here to see the lengthy list of recalled products and learn more about the previous recalls connected to this expansion.

Consumers taking the affected medication should speak with their doctors to discuss the recall before they stop taking the drug, or if they have experienced any adverse effects that may be related to the drug.

Losartan is used to treat high blood pressure, left ventricle-heart conditions and nephropathy in Type 2 diabetic patients, among other conditions. Losartan potassium and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are also used to treat high blood pressure and heart issues, but are not used to treat nephropathy.

Other manufacturers have recalled losartan in recent months, but some have involved different potential contaminants. Be sure to contact your health care provider or pharmacy if you have any questions about losartan overall.

Anyone with questions about the latest recall may call Torrent Pharmaceuticals at 1-800-912-9561 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Parts of Connecticut could be in for a soaking this weekend.

A flood watch has been issued for northern Connecticut and a flash flood watch has been issued for southern Connecticut.

Rain will pick up Friday evening as scattered showers move through the state. Overnight the rain will become heavy at times and some areas will see heavy downpours on Saturday.

The heavier downpours will be hit or miss, but 1-2 inches of rain is possible in some areas.

Some flooding is possible in the places where the heaviest rain falls.

The periods of rain will shift east on Saturday night and there could still be some lingering showers around for Easter Sunday morning.

Those showers will end and some parts of the state could see breaks in the clouds by Sunday afternoon.

More rain moves in on Monday.

McDonald's Drops Signature Crafted Burgers, Trims Late-Night Menu

McDonald’s apparently isn’t lovin’ its craft burgers anymore.

The world’s largest hamburger chain said it is ditching the “Signature Crafted Recipes line” on its national menu in order to focus on the Quarter Pounder.

The decision comes less than two years after McDonald's launched the gourmet burger options, which included Pico Guacamole, Sweet BBQ Bacon and Maple Bacon Dijon.

The Chicago-based company introduced in January two new versions of their classic Quarter pounder: one with applewood smoked bacon and a delux burger with lettuce and tomato.

“We’ve introduced even more ways to enjoy the classic burger toppings [customers] know and love, now on the fresh beef Quarter Pound patty,” McDonald’s said in a release.

The company said the decision was based on customer feedback.

But that’s not the only menu line the chain is scaling back.

Beginning April 30, McDonald’s says it will be “simplifying what’s served after midnight so customers can get the most popular favorites as fast as possible.”

That means customers will only be able to get Big Macs, Quarter Pounder burgers, Chicken McNuggets, all day breakfast, fries, sweets and treats, Happy Meals, McCafe and beverages.

“We always want our customers’ experiences to be simple, smooth and delicious—any time of day. That means, day and night, we’re always looking for ways to serve them even better,” the chain said in a statement.

Newly released body camera footage shows police officers and bystanders race to rescue two men trapped in the burning wreckage of a car crash on Interstate 676 in Camden, New Jersey, this month.

Camden County Police Department officers Vaughn Edwards, Joseph Mair, Brian McCline and Vincent Russomanno were honored Friday. They shattered windows and withstood the heat of the fire as flames engulfed the vehicles and began burning the drivers trapped inside in the April 7 crash, county spokesman Dan Keashen said.

Though the men in the crash suffered "extensive" burns, things could have been a lot worse but for the officers, Keashan said. Aided by Delaware River Port Authority police Officer Franklin Flash and various bystanders, the officials pulled the men away from the wreckage just before the flames fully engulfed their cars.

Body camera video from one of the officers shows him running toward the crash as flames rise from the wreckage, with other officers and bystanders already at the scene trying to free a trapped driver.

"I gotta get the door. I gotta get the door," someone shouts. "Pull, pull, pull," others shout as they drag the man by the legs away from the car.

The rescuers' attention then turns to another trapped person.

"Give me your hand, give me your hand," an officer shouts. A hand reaches out through the flames as another officer repeatedly uses his baton to shatter the windshield and create an escape point.

The flames continue to race through the vehicle until an officer and a bystander are able to pull the man out.

The officers also freed two other men from an SUV involved in the crash that caught fire, Keashan said.

Other Democratic hopefuls have said the report puts the question of impeachment on the table.

Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, told NBC News Friday that there's "evidence that this president deserves to be impeached" but added that he is not in Congress and will leave it those who are to decide whether to pursue proceedings.

Democratic presidential contender Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota dodged the question of whether Trump should face impeachment on MSNBC's "All in With Chris Hayes" Thursday, while Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., did not rule it out.

Hamden Police To Implement Changes After Shooting in New Haven

New Haven clergy concerned about the police shooting in their city involving a Hamden and Yale officer met Friday morning with Hamden's mayor and acting chief of police.

"We are really outraged in reference to what has transpired, but we did want to come and share our concerns," Rev. Dr. Boise Kimber said after he and other pastors had their private meeting in the mayor's office.

"This is about working together," Mayor Curt Leng (D) said, "and trying to make meaningful change moving forward we can't take away what happened, what happened was horrific."

The faith leaders said they plan to continue the conversation with Leng and acting Chief John Cappiello.

"We would also like the board of commission(ers) to look like this community," Kimber said. "At this present, time there's only one African American that sits on this board,"

The pastors and police chief said they have agreed to bring in an urban trauma specialist to train Hamden's officers.

"I know we deal with trauma but the urban trauma is very important because it's generational trauma," Pastor John Lewis said. "They need to understand the individuals, their environment they're going in and their deescalation is based on Dr. King's philosophy of non-violence."

Another recommendation accepted by the mayor and chief is to establish in writing a more clear-cut policy on notifying neighboring police forces when Hamden officers go into their city or town.

"I just want to make sure everybody understands if you're going into another town what you need to do," Cappiello said.

It's been three days since the investigators said Hamden police officer Devin Eaton and Yale police officer Terrence Pollock shot at the red car seen in surveillance video by the Dixwell and Argyle intersection.

The young woman in the passenger seat, 22-year-old Stephanie Washington, is recovering from a gunshot wound. The driver has been identified as 21-year-old Paul Witherspoon, but he was not shot.

"I thank god that my family and the young lady that nobody passed," Witherspoon's uncle Rodney Williams from New Haven said.

State police said Hamden police got the report of an attempted armed robbery of a newspaper deliveryman around 4 a.m. Tuesday at a Hamden gas station on Arch Street near the New Haven line, about a mile away from the shooting scene.

Williams told NBC Connecticut his nephew did get in a heated argument, but that he was not carrying a gun nor committing a crime.

"It was a verbal type thing," Williams said, "you know a back and forth with him and the newspaper guy. All this and that's what Paul is upset about, they're making it seem like he was trying to rob somebody."

NBC Connecticut has requested the body camera video and radio transmissions leading up to the officers opening fire.

When asked if that video and transmissions will eventually come out to the public, Cappiello said yes. "Yes, the state's attorney has assured us that as they go through the investigation, once they've looked at they will be releasing information through the state police for everybody to have," he said.

Hamden officer Eaton remains on paid administrative leave.

Witherspoon's attorney declined an interview with NBC Connecticut on Friday. He is planning to file a lawsuit against Hamden and Yale police.

Weather Forcing People to Change Easter Weekend Plans

$

With heavy rain expected Saturday that could linger into Easter Sunday morning, many people are coming up with back-up plans to their outdoor activities.

The Mystic Congregational Church is hoping to have their sunrise service Easter morning in their garden. But the forecast has Pastor Christa Swenson prepared to move the service to inside the library and have congregants watch the sun rise from there. It would be a decision she makes at 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

At Olde Mistick Village in Mystic, staff had about 7,000 to 9,000 Easter eggs ready for their annual Easter Egg hunt Saturday. But the forecast forced Events Coordinator Annie Hettick to cancel it.

It was the first time in over 12 years Hettick had to do that, she said.

"It's usually out in the big green and if it gets to the point where kids are just sliding around and could get hurt, that's when we say, maybe not a good idea," Hettick said.

Kids can still get those eggs if they visit the Easter Bunny in the Gazebo or under the Village Towne Hall.

"So, my hair does not do well in rain," laughed Tezeta Roro, who will only bring her sons back to Olde Mistick Village Saturday if the weather holds up.

Roro's family explored the village today while on vacation from West Orange, New Jersey.

"I was looking for more outdoorsy (activities). Now we're sort-of thinking more indoor, aquarium type of thing," Roro said about her plans for the weekend.

Jessica McCann-Dineen expects weekend sports to be a washout.

"The weather is actually holding out on us. However tomorrow, yes, (my son's) T-ball will probably be cancelled," McCann-Dineen said.

Never has Seaport Community Church in Groton had to cancel their Easter egg hunt, according to Senior Pastor Brad Whipple. He even said one time the ground was covered in snow.

But if the rain lingers into Sunday morning, Whipple said he has big plans to make it up to the kids.

"Move it one week, but then up the game and add additional prizes, gift certificates and make it even more fun," Whipple said.

Other Businesses Being Affected by Stop & Shop Strike

It’s the strike that’s been heard all across Connecticut and it’s noise that surrounding small business owner, Lisa Hamel of Wine Etc. in Granby says has now caused her sales to go quiet.

“It’s kind of eerie it’s just dead,” Lisa Hamel said.

Hamel says Easter weekend is typically one of her busiest holidays of the year but by this Good Friday sales were down.

“It’s been about 50 percent over six days that we’ve seen such a significant drop,” Hamel said.

Hamel says she wants customers who would normally stop by her store during their grocery runs to know she’s still open for business.

“We don’t want people to feel scared or intimidated to come in here as a result of what’s happening,” Hamel said.

Stop & Shop employee Reuben Colins, now on his seventh day striking, has noticed the decline in traffic around the area and the effects on other businesses.

“I feel bad for them we’ve got to do something about this we can’t let it keep going,” Colins said.

“I was due to stock up anyway and I thought well I’ll stop by and give them some support,” Jenny Emery said.

Emery making a pass by Wine Etc. today after hearing about the drop in sales.

“It’s a tough time to have something like this like a strike you know it’s like collateral damage,” Emery said.

As union negotiations continue, Hamel hopes customers continue to come through her doors.

“We’re hoping that the community knows that we’re still here that we still appreciate them coming in,” Hamel said.

Stop & Shop said Friday that negotiations on a new contract continue.

Hartford Mosque Members Meet With Authorities Over Threat

Members of a mosque in Hartford are still reeling after a caller threatened to kill worshipers there last month.

The Muhammad Islamic Center of Greater Hartford received the phone call right after the massacre of worshipers at a mosque in New Zealand.

On Friday, members of the Hartford Police, the FBI and state, community and religious leaders gathered together at the mosque.

The hope is to make worshipers feel more safe.

On March 24 around 4:30 a.m., a member of the Muhammad Islamic Center of Greater Hartford picked up a threatening phone call laced with racial slurs.

“That individual had said he was going to burn this place down,” state Sen. Saud Anwar (D-East Hartford) explained.

Anwar led the press conference to try and make community members feel safer, and show that lots of groups stand united with their community.

“No one in our state should feel threatened to come to their place of worship ever,” Anwar said.

“It’s a matter of being an American that we will stand together with you,” U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal said.

The mosque’s prayer leader says the Hartford Police Department has tried to make members feel more comfortable, but he’s frustrated with the FBI.

“I don’t see the same type of action being done on behalf of the Muslim community,” said Imam Kashmir Abdul-Karim.

The FBI says while they can’t give out more information, an investigation is underway.

“Although you may not see it out front, the FBI and state local and federal law enforcement are continuously working together you may not hear about it right away, but it’s not being ignored. I assure you. It’s not being ignored,” said FBI Outreach Specialist Charles Grady.

Police are aware of who made the call.

“We take all of this seriously as if it’s our own place of worship because it could very well be,” Grady said.

“It’s a problem and we want resolutions soon,” Abdul-Karim said.

Hartford Police say they have assigned additional officers on foot patrol in the area, and there have been no other threats to a house of worship in Hartford since that call. While officials say they know who made the call, it’s unclear if anyone has been arrested.
