A search for a suspect led to three schools in Torrington being locked down Friday afternoon.
Forbes School at 500 Midgeon Avenue, Vogel-Wetmore School at 68 Church Street and St. Peter/St. Francis School at 360 Prospect Street were all placed into lockdown, according to school officials.
Officers responded to a suspicious vehicle complaint in the area. While searching the vehicle, officers found drugs, and got into an altercation with the driver, 29-year-old James Tripp, police said.
Tripp fled on foot and police began a search for him.
The schools were placed into a "shelter in place" situation, meaning no one was allowed in or out of the building, but students were free to move about the school, according to the assistant superintendent.
Police located Tripp behind St. Mary's Church on Forest Court around 4 p.m. and the lockdowns were lifted.
