West Haven police have arrested the man who they say tried to rob Campbell Motor Sales early Friday morning.
According to police, Patrick Savino, 32, of 168 Washington Avenue in West Haven, was trying to break into the business at 175 Campbell Avenue when officers arrived around 2:45 a.m.
Police said Savino was carrying a large kitchen knife. He was wearing all black and black gloves.
Officers said they also found signs that Savino had tampered with the building entrance and vehicles on the property.
Savino was charged with carrying/selling a dangerous weapon, third-degree criminal mischief, third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny and two counts of attempting to commit a crime.
He was held on $15,000 bond and is due in court today.
Savino has an extensive record of burglary, larceny and weapon charges beginning in 2004.
