The parade kicks off at 2 p.m. with hundreds of marchers traveling from St. John’s Square to the South Green, and businesses along the route are taking part. At Forbidden City Bistro, they've got pride flags up and a special cocktail menu just for the day.

"The exciting thing is more fun, more friends," said Forbidden City Bistro Owner Eric Leong.

"We're expecting a huge crowd all day long. I'm sure all the businesses here are pretty excited about that, and it's going to be a great day," said La Boca Mexican Restaurant Director of Operations Murph Murphy.

Businesses say there is a lot of excitement around Saturday's event-packed day.

A 29-year-old Winsted man has died after a motorcycle crash Friday night in Winchester, according to police.

Police said they responded to East Wakefield Boulevard just after 9:30 p.m. after getting a 911 call from a witness to the crash and found 29-year-old Charles Godshall, of Winsted, unconscious on the road near a telephone pole in front of 734 East Wakefield Boulevard.

The Winsted Fire Department responded, and CPR was performed for 20 minutes before Godshall was pronounced dead at 11:03 p.m. at the scene, police said.

Investigators believe that Godshall was going north on East Wakefield Boulevard when he lost control of his motorcycle, fell off, then hit the pole and a stonewall.

Witnesses told police they heard the motorcycle and stopped their vehicle to let it pass. They also said they saw the motorcycle travel at a high rate of speed and the operator lose control and hit a telephone pole, according to a news release from police.

Police said Godshall was operating a 2003 Harley-Davidson Xl1200c and he was wearing a helmet.

The Connecticut State Police Accident Investigation Team and the Winchester Police Department are investigating.

All Defendants Guilty of Murder in NYC Teen Machete Slaying

After a weeks-long trial filled with emotional testimonies, chilling revelations and graphic photos, the jury reached a verdict in the Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz murder trial.

All five defendants were found guilty of murder in first and second degree, as well as conspiracy and gang assault charges.

The first verdict was announced against Jonaiki Martinez Estrella, who delivered the fatal blow with a kitchen knife that ultimately killed Guzman a year ago next week.

Fellow defendant Jose Muniz was heard saying "Trinitarios to the day I die" as he left the courtroom following the guilty verdicts. All five defendants — Antonio Santigo, Elvin Garcia, Manuel Rivera, Estrella and Muniz — were members of the Trinitarios gang.

The convicted killers will be sentenced Tuesday, July 16. There are nine others charged in Guzman's murder that are still awaiting trial.

The family of Junior had mixed emotions after the verdicts were announced, but Guzman's brother said ultimately, "justice was served."

"It was a terrible year, it felt like 10 years. But at the end, it has a happy ending," said Manny Ortiz. "I saw a smile on my mother’s face … really, really excited."

Junior's mother said that Friday's verdict will sends a message to all those who would do something similar to what happened to her son.

"See what happens with those killers," said Leandra Feliz. "If they continue the violence in the city, they’re going to get the same thing."

“Junior came to symbolize all of the young people who have lost their lives to brutal gang violence,” said Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark. “Today’s verdict fortifies the Bronx community’s stand against violence

"Today Junior's family, and in fact our entire city, has received a measure of justice," Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz said in a statement. "Today's verdicts will not bring Junior back. Nothing can. But these verdicts will send a messageto those who would commitacts of senseless violenc, and help us move forward and bring closure to this awful chapter in our borough's history."

The jury, comprised of 11 women and one man, reached the verdict Friday after going into deliberations Thursday.

Prior to deliberations starting, the judge told the jury they could deliberate over the five defendants on trial separately and return individual verdicts or wait to return the verdicts of all five at once. It is unclear what the jury decided on.

The case grabbed the attention of New Yorkers and across the nation, given that the brutal machete killing of the 15-year-old boy that took place inside a Bronx bodega in the summer of 2018 was captured on surveillance.

Video showed the boy being dragged outside the bodega and set upon by a gang of men who hacked at him as he struggled to defend himself. Ultimately, he was slashed in the neck and died after running to a hospital three blocks away.

Investigators say the group mistook Guzman-Feliz, who was not affiliated with any gang, for a member of the rival fraction of the Trinitarios gang. In total, more than a dozen suspects have been arrested in connection to the killing. Nine others charged in the killing are awaiting trial.

In opening statements, prosecutors described the teen's killing as a calculated and planned murder by the five suspects. However, four defense attorneys contested this notion, describing during opening statements that most of Guzman-Feliz's wounds as superficial and said it was the one cut to the throat that killed him. The defense attorney for the man who allegedly dealt that throat cut took offense at that.

Following the lengthy opening statements from the prosecution and defense attorneys for the five suspected gang members, the first of 14 to stand trial, the first witness took the stand. She said she watched the attack from an apartment window and ran downstairs to try to help. She described, in heartbreaking detail, how Guzman-Feliz looked up at her after the attack and motioned her to call 911.

He only said that one word -- "water," she testified.

Mere days after the trial kicked off startling never-before-seen footage of the savage machete attack was presented by prosecutors.

The trial also included shocking revelations, including when it was learned that the self-proclaimed gang member who testified against the other five alleged Trinitarios members on trial could get off because of his testimony.

Kevin Alvarez, who pleaded guilty a weeks ago, took the stand to testify on behalf of the prosecution.

The defense also tried to discredit Guzman-Feliz alleging he was in a gang photo — a notion a detective who took the stand denied.

Closing arguments proved to be just as emotional, as some jury members shed tears. Assistant District Attorney Morgan Dolan used her time to go into detail about what the five defendants are accused of doing — trapping Guzman at the Bronx bodega and hacking him to death with a machete.

She used her summation to show the jury the boy’s final moments repeatedly, slowing it down to show each defendant’s actions. The ADA’s argument also included graphic autopsy photos — including the slit on Junior’s neck the medical examiner says killed him.

“This 15-year-old boy, moments before death, fought like hell to get away,” said Dolan.

Meanwhile, during closing arguments the defense told jurors that the prosecution had failed to prove the suspects wanted to kill Junior, arguing testimony from star witnesses showed the men “intended to hurt Junior, not kill him.”

Guzman-Feliz had been part of the NYPD's Explorers program, a group for youths interested in a law enforcement career. The New York City Police Foundation announced it planned to set up a scholarship in his name.

Since the violent attack, the community’s outpouring of love and support has been seen in a mural. Guzman-Feliz’s memory has also been honored through the renaming of a street and a summer camp at a state park, as well as prompting the “Safe Haven Bodega” program in the city.

A United Airlines plane got "multiple flat tires" and skidded off a runway at Newark airport on Saturday, prompting a temporary ground stop and causing minor injuries to some passengers, the FAA and the airline said.

The ground stop was lifted after about two hours, but the airport was operating with only limited capacity, according to the Port Authority. The plane was in the proccess of being moved around 5:30 p.m.

United Flight 627 from Denver International Airport landed on the runway at 1 p.m., then skidded off the pavement and got its left main landing gear stuck in a grassy area, according to the FAA.

Passengers were transported to the terminal and terminal and paramedics were on site as a precaution, the airline said.

"We’re in close touch with the FAA and airport authorities and are working expeditiously to safely remove the disabled aircraft so that operations at the airport can return to normal," the airline added.

The plane was carrying 166 passengers, according to United. An unspecified number of passengers sustained minor injuries, but all of them refused medical attention, the airline said.

An FAA investigation was ongoing.

The Port Authority Police Department Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter Unit, ESU and patrol were at the scene working to help passengers evacuate.

In its own statement, Newark Airport said travelers should check with their carriers before heading to the airport.

"Passengers have been safely deplaned following an earlier incident at EWR and the airport is working to resume flight activity," the airport tweeted.

An Arkansas woman was arrested in connection to the death of former state Sen. Linda Collins-Smith, who was found dead outside her home last week. Rebecca Lynn O’Donnell, 48, was taken into custody Friday, Arkansas State Police said. Criminal charges are pending, NBC News reports.

Ken Yang, Collins-Smith’s former press secretary, told NBC News that O’Donnell and Collins-Smith were friends and worked together last year. "We are sickened and upset that someone so close to Linda, would be involved in such a terrible, heartless crime. The family is very confident that the Randolph County Sheriff's Department and the Arkansas State Police will continue to work diligently to bring justice to this case," the ex-senator's family said in a statement.

State police and the sheriff's office were called to Collins-Smith's home in the city of Pocahontas around 5:45 p.m. June 4 after human remains, later identified as those of the former state senator, were found outside. A cause of death has not been revealed.

Collins-Smith, 57, was elected to the Arkansas House as a Democrat in 2010, and shortly after being elected, switched to the Republican party. She served one term in the House, and in 2014 was elected to the state Senate, where she served two terms. She lost her re-election bid in 2018.

The death of the newborn baby who was cut from his mother’s womb last month has been ruled a homicide by the Cook County Medical Examiner.

According to an autopsy conducted Saturday, Yovanny Jadiel Lopez died from a lack of oxygen and blood to his brain.

The medical examiner’s report said that the infant boy died from “complications of anoxic encephalopathy and intrauterine hypoxia,” and also cited “maternal assault and demise” in its findings.

Lopez was brought to Advocate Christ Medical Center after he was cut from 19-year-old Marlen Ochoa’s womb in a brutal attack April 23.

Police believe that two women, identified as Desiree and Clarisa Figueroa, brought Lopez to the hospital and claimed that Clarisa had given birth to him, and he was taken to the intensive care unit, where he remained until he died Friday morning.

Desiree and Clarisa Figueroa are facing murder charges in connection with Marlen Ochoa’s death, and could face additional charges in the infant’s death.

New Canaan Mom Jennifer Dulos Has Been Missing for More Than 3 Weeks

Jennifer Dulos, a mother of five from New Canaan, has now been missing for more than three weeks.

On Friday, the search for her and investigation into what happened expanded and police and a dive team were at a body of water at Fisher Meadows, on Old Farms Road in Avon, in connection with the investigation, according to authorities.

Jennifer Dulos has been missing since May 24. She was last seen that morning when she dropped her children off at school in New Canaan but she missed doctor’s appointments that day and her friends could not get in touch with her. She was reported missing that night.

When police officers went to her home on Welles Lane, they found blood stains on the garage floor and “evidence of attempts to clean the crime scene,” according to court documents.

What officers saw led them to suspect that Jennifer was the victim of a serious assault.

READ THE TIMELINE ON THE DISAPPEARANCE OF JENNIFER DULOS

Police said they have received more than 600 tips for all over the world and nearly 80 responses to requests for surveillance video from homes and businesses in New Canaan.

They are asking anyone with information to call the tip line at 203-594-3544, email tips to FindJenniferDulos@newcanaanct.gov or submit anonymous tips online at www.FindJenniferDulos.com.

Jennifer Dulos’ estranged husband, 51-year-old Fotis Dulos, of Farmington, and his 44-year-old girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, have both been arrested in connection with her disappearance and pleaded not guilty Tuesday to evidence tampering and hindering prosecution.

Fotis Dulos had been in police custody since his arrest on June 1 but was released after posting bond and turning over his passport. He has been ordered to wear a GPS-monitored ankle bracelet.

Fotis Dulos’ attorney, Norm Pattis, told NBC News he understands why his client is under suspicion, but urged people to follow the evidence and not their hunches.

On Wednesday, police were at another area of Old Farms Road in Avon, where the search for the 50-year-old was focused on a pond popular for water skiing.

Jennifer’s Dulos’ 2017 divorce filing claimed that her children’s health suffered due her husband, Fotis Dulos, forcing them to train at a nearby waterski pond.  Dulos’ attorney told NBC News that his client had access to the same water skiing pond searched on Wednesday.

Police are also searching at Material Innovation Recycling Authority, or MIRA, a trash facility in Hartford for the 12th day in a row.

A source with knowledge of the investigation told NBC Conneticut that state police contacted MIRA about a garbage truck that made a collection on Tuesday, May 28.

Critics Call Trump's Downsizing of Science Advisory Boards 'Nonsensical'

President Donald Trump signed an executive order late Friday to cut the number of government advisory committees by a third across all federal agencies, a move that the White House said is long overdue and necessary to ensure good stewardship of taxpayers' money, NBC News reported

Experts on the advisory committees, which were formalized under the Federal Advisory Committee Act in 1972, give the executive branch input on issues ranging from high-level nuclear waste disposal, the depletion of atmospheric ozone, AIDS, drug addiction, school improvement and housing.

But critics said it is the Trump administration’s latest effort to undermine science-based and fact-supported decision-making.

“This is another example of how disconnected the Trump administration is from the needs of the American people and how to protect them from harm," said Mustafa Ali, who resigned in 2017 as the senior adviser for environmental justice at the Environmental Protection Agency.
